Miniature House Kit FAQ — Your Questions, Answered

If you're deciding whether to buy your first kit, or choosing between kits, or wondering whether this is a reasonable thing to attempt on a Saturday afternoon — this page has the direct answers. No upselling. If something isn't included, we'll tell you. If a kit takes longer than expected, we'll tell you that too.

1. Getting Started

I've never built a miniature kit before. Where do I start?
Welcome to the hobby! We recommend starting with an Intermediate-rated kit with a build time of 5–8 hours and a piece count under 300. Our Boho Style Miniature House or Boba Shop Kit are perfect first builds. Before you open the box, we suggest reading our Beginner's Guide to learn about tool setup and glue types.
What age group is suitable for Nookcraft kits?
Most kits are recommended for ages 14 and up due to small parts and intricate steps. Younger crafters (ages 8+) can certainly enjoy building them, but we strongly suggest adult supervision and assistance.
How is Nookcraft different from kits on Amazon?
The primary difference is our instruction booklet. Many mass-market kits use compressed diagrams or poorly translated text. Every Nookcraft kit features full-color English photo instructions, with real photographs taken at the actual working angle for every single step. This makes the build intuitive rather than frustrating.

2. What's in the Box

What is included in a Nookcraft kit?
Every kit is a complete "world in a box," including: laser-cut wood panels, resin accessories, miniature furniture, fabric/paper decorative elements, and a full LED lighting system. Please note: Glue and batteries are not included due to shipping regulations.
What type of glue and batteries do I need?
You will need white PVA craft glue (for paper and fabric) and super glue (for structural wood joints). Most kits require 3×AAA batteries for the LED lights. Both can be found at any local craft or hardware store for under $5.
Are the materials safe and durable?
Yes. All kits use high-quality, non-toxic wood and eco-friendly materials. Once assembled and kept in a dry place, your miniature scene will remain a beautiful display piece for years.

3. Difficulty & Build Time

How long does a kit take to build?
It depends on the complexity:
  • Intermediate: 5–8 hours.
  • Advanced: 8–15 hours.
  • Expert: 30–50+ hours.
We recommend splitting the build into sessions to let the glue cure properly between phases.
What if I make a mistake or break a piece?
Don't worry—most mistakes are recoverable! Wood breaks can usually be re-glued cleanly. If you make a gluing error, acetone (nail polish remover) can often dissolve super glue bonds if caught early. If a part is beyond repair, contact our support team.
Can I pause mid-build?
Absolutely. We recommend storing partially assembled sections in a dust-free box or bag. Keep your loose pieces organized by their numbered bags to make resuming easy.

4. Book Nook Specifics

What is a Book Nook?
A Book Nook is a miniature scene designed to sit between books on a shelf. It creates an "optical illusion" of a tiny world extending behind your library. They are optimized for front-facing display rather than a 360-degree view.
Will it fit my IKEA Billy or KALLAX shelf?
Yes! Most Nookcraft book nooks are specifically sized to fit standard shelving like the IKEA KALLAX (33cm height) and Billy (26cm height). Typical dimensions are 8-9" tall and 5" deep.

5. Shipping & Orders

How long does shipping take?
Orders typically deliver within 7–10 business days after a 1-day processing period. You will receive a tracking number as soon as your kit is on its way.
What if a piece is missing from my kit?
We take great care in packaging, but if a part is missing, simply email [email protected] with your order number and a photo of the manual identifying the part. We will ship the replacement to you within 3-5 business days at no extra cost.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We ship Nookcraft kits to hobbyists worldwide. Shipping rates and estimated times for your specific country will be calculated at checkout.
